Cristiano Ronaldo stole the show in Cardiff on Tuesday night: unfortunately, it was Gareth Bale’s show.
This was supposed to be the glorious homecoming for the Welshman, back on home soil as part of a stellar Real Madrid team, the reigning European champions.
Instead, Bale had to take his bow in the shadow of the World Footballer of the Year, Ronaldo scoring twice as Madrid landed the first of the six trophies for which they will compete this season.
